We went in Saturday night to begin the induction.
After getting hooked up to the monitors and being checked, I was a 2, I was given cytotec at 7:30pm and was told that it might start labor and that they would be in in a few hours to insert the IV port and unhook me so I could walk around foe a while. At 10:00 the nurse came in and tried putting the IV in. She blew the vain in my left hand but was able to get it on the first try in left. She then told us that the Dr. will be in between 5am-6:30am, which got me pretty excited. At 10:30 they came in and unhooked me for what Adam called my “yard time” like I was in Prison, I had to be back in bed by 11. During that time we walked the halls multiple multiple times I was ready to run or skip or something. At 12:30 I was checked again and was now a 4. I thought this stuff was really working. I was offered a sleeping pill at this time, which I denied because I thought that the dr would be in by 6 and I would just be groggy due to not getting a full 8 hours of sleep.
I ended up being up most of the night. Every time I would finally fall asleep I would a either have to go to the bath room or b. the nurse would come in to roll me to one side or the other because his heart rate would drop way low, under100. I was checked at 4:00 and I was still only a 4. After calling the nurse at least once an hour to go to the bathroom at 4:30 I told myself the dr would be there in about an hour so try to get some sleep. I was able to sleep until 8:00 when the nurse came in and said the dr. had called and said to start the potocin and she would be there soon to break my water.
I was checked right after the potocin and was still only a 4. I guess the cytotec didn’t do too much. I hadn’t felt any contractions yet. By 9:00 I started feeling them but they weren’t too bad. Just like I feel one starting, ok its done I was able to talk through them. I had told my nurse I didn’t want the epidural until I was dilated a 6, she said we would try. By 10:30 I was feeling the contraction pretty good the nurse came in and asked if I wanted the epi now because the anesthesiologist was going home for a bit. I said sure I will take it. By the time he came in the contractions where going hot and heavy, I was shaking uncontrollably which I did not like. As he came in h made my husband leave and told him to get a cup of coffee and come back in 10 minutes, I about freaked, but we both managed to get through it. After the epi was in at 11:15, I stopped shaking and was able to relax, I was checked at this time and was an 8. At 1:00 the nurse came in and checked me I was still an 8, she said the dr. was finally on her way in to break my water. She came in at 1:15 broke my water and said the baby will be here in 1.5 hours to 2 hours. I said he will be here sooner she just smiled. The nurse then came back in at 1:35 to check me and see how I was, at this point she pulled back and said “ don’t laugh, sneeze or cough the dr will be right in.” The dr. and two nurses came in the room at 1:47 as she was putting her gloves on she said lets have a practice push. So I reared back to push, and out he came. She put her gloved hand down to get the head while pulling on her other glove with her mouth. I was then told not to push because the cord was wrapped fairly tightly around is neck. She cut the cord and told me to push again and the next thing I knew I was holding Zion Wesley at 1:53 PM weighing 7lbs 6 oz and 21 inches. I was able to hold him for quite some time before they took him across the room to clean him up and check everything out. He was able to stay in the room with us for about 2 hours before they took him to the nursery. At this time I was able to get up and take a shower. It was a great birth I hope that the next one goes as quickly and smoothly.
